- Grade 1 and My First Steps
I spent my primary school years at Long Thanh A School with so many memories. In Grade 1, my teacher was Ms. Huong. She was my first teacher and gave me a lot of energy for the following years. She was small and was almost ready to retire. Her voice was very soft, which helped me feel less scared in a new place.
I stayed at her house for half-boarding. Every morning, my mom took me to school, and at noon, a bus took me to Ms. Huong’s house to eat and sleep. I was a quiet child, so she loved me a lot. Staying there with my friends made us very close. I was in class 1/6, and we stayed together until Grade 5. At the end of Grade 1, I was an Excellent Student. More than half of my class were Excellent Students, too. Haha, my class was so good at studying!
2. Grade 2- Happy Fun Days
In Grade 2, I had a great time staying at Ms. Hoa’s house. Her house was near Bau Ca, where my mom used to take me to the doctor when I was little. Ms. Hoa was very kind and had fair skin. She cooked delicious food, and our classroom even had air conditioning!
She had only one daughter, so she loved her very much. She was also very sweet to us; she even braided our hair before the bus came. One special thing: in all 5 years, I only studied in the morning in Grade 1. From Grade 2 to Grade 5, I always studied in the afternoon. It was a bit “terrible” to go to school in the heat, but we did it. We were so cool, right? Hihi.
3. Grade 3 and Memories of Covid-19
Grade 3 was the most memorable year because of Covid-19. We were ready for school, but we couldn’t go. I finally met my teacher on “Back to School Day” – February 14th, 2022. It was the day the country reopened after a long lockdown. I was too young to understand everything, but I knew I couldn’t go out.
Everything was online. The streets and houses were locked down. I heard the sound of ambulances and police cars every day—it was scary. Everyone went to get vaccines, but my mom didn’t let me go because she was worried about my health. So, until now, I don’t know what a Covid vaccine feels like! I met Ms. Nhung the least because we studied online for the whole first semester. Sometimes, it rained so hard that I couldn’t hear her through the computer, but we tried our best. In the end, more than 10 students in my class were Excellent Students.
I also really love Ms. Thiem (Grade 4) and Ms. Vinh (Grade 5). They were like mothers to me. They helped me have many fun experiences, even though we had a “mountain” of homework!
Ms. Thiem was very gentle and took great care of us. Ms. Vinh was a bit stricter because it was our final year. But our class was amazing—we had 22 Excellent Students! Everyone was very happy. I will never forget these wonderful years.

Next year, I will be in secondary school. My mom chose Nguyen Duc Ung School for me because it is right next to my primary school. My friends and I will see each other again, but maybe not as often because we will be in different classes. However, looking at our photos always makes me happy. The memories of class 5/6 will live in my heart forever.
